The jasmin the man is wearing behind his ear, whilst it catches the light from above, is Tunisia's national flower. This man is wearing the flower, whilst catching the light from above. Symbolic for Tunisia’s state, rising from the dark, up into the light, starting the Arab Spring under the so-called Jasmin Revolution.
The people are persistent in finding peace, are loving and the willpower is stronger than ever.

L’Ombre Caché (2015) is a series showing the balance between light and darkness in the violet blue coloured city of Kairouan, one of the Islamic Holy Towns, in Tunisia. The series was made during an assignment as a representative for The Netherlands for Le Projet Kairouan, the 2nd Euromaghrebian Photography Residency by the delegation of the European Union.

Le Projet Kairouan resulted in an exhibition in the Tunisian cities Kairouan and Tunisia, as well as the publication of a book.
